20th Annual Pirastro Strings Virtual Elite Soloists Program

The 20th Annual Pirastro Strings Elite Soloists Program will accept only 5 participants to study with Jeff Bradetich in the summer of 2022 in a virtual environment. Last summer’s virtual program brought students together from five continents.

Winner of the 2nd Bradetich Foundation International Double Bass Solo Competition

Thanks to the generous support of Pirastro Strings, this program offers free tuition and the Pirastro company will supply participants with free strings of their choice. The schedule for this highly individualized program will include: Daily private lessons, solo master classes and a final virtual concert. In addition, repertoire, programming and career advancement will be discussed.

 

This program is designed for aspiring young artists and professional orchestra players. Former participants currently perform in: Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Chicago Symphony, National Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Singapore Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Denmark and many others.


To qualify, participants must have three major solo works ready for study and one for performance.

36th Annual Bradetich Double Bass Master Classes 2023

June 12-16, 2023 (check-in June 11th)

University of North Texas

Instructors: Jeff Bradetich & Gudrun Raschen

The Bradetich Master Classes, held at the University of North Texas, is one of the longest-running events of its kind in the U.S. These classes offer a highly concentrated week of study for aspiring bassists. Participants, who come from five continents as well as all corners of the U.S., receive optimum individual and group instruction in all aspects of double bass playing. The classes include daily two-hour sessions on technique, orchestral repertoire, and the interpretation of solo literature. In addition, bass ensembles are rehearsed throughout the week. All full participants will have the opportunity to perform with piano accompaniment. The master classes end with a grand finale concert featuring ensemble performances by the participants. These unique master classes are open to well-qualified high school and college students, young professionals, and amateur double bass enthusiasts who seek to rejuvenate their love and knowledge of the double bass. Also welcome are string teachers and older individuals who seek to rejuvenate their love and knowledge of the double bass. To apply, fill out the application below. Two levels of participation are available:

Full Participant: (Limit 25) Participate in all sessions and perform in solo classes. The participants are expected to be able to play three-octave scales; have good knowledge of thumb position; be able to play solo works at or above the difficulty level of the Eccles Sonata or the Dragonetti Concerto.
Auditor: No instrument. Will attend all sessions and take part in discussions

Arrival – Departure: Registration/check-in is at 6:00pm on Sunday, June 11th and the final concert ends at approximately 9:15pm on Friday, June 16th.  ALL students must check in and register on Sunday, including those who are not staying on campus during camp. We will be having a pizza party during registration so you can meet other students and everyone will be well prepared to start Monday morning. For those staying on campus, check out is Friday, June 16th,before the final concert. Students' belongings will be stored on campus and can be picked up after the final concert.

  • Full Participant: $525 before May 1st, 2023; $575 after May 2nd, 2023

  • A $125 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit must accompany your registration and will apply to your total payment.

  • Housing:

    • UNDER 18: Double Occupancy room  $32/night -must bring your own linens and pillow

    • OVER 18: Single Occupancy room, private bath, internet and parking $54/night -must bring own linens and pillow

    • OVER 18: Single Occupancy room, shared bath, internet and parking $42/night -must bring own linens and pillow

  • Optional Dorm Meals - $28/day - Includes 3 meals per day for those staying on campus.

23rd Annual Beginners and Intermediate Bass Camp

June 13-16, 2023 (check-in June 12th)

Beginning and Intermediate players of the double bass will join the North Texas Bass Camp for four days of fun, participation and instruction. Students are challenged to expand their technical capabilities, develop their musical expression, and learn about the repertoire, history and maintenance of their instruments. In addition, students will be taught by some of the top teachers of young bassists in the country, enjoy the week-ending game of "Double Bass Jeopardy", and perform together in a grand finale Bass Bash Concert.

Arrival – Departure: Registration/check-in is at 6:00pm on Monday, June 12th and the final concert ends at approximately 9:15pm on Friday, June 16th. ALL students must check in and register on Monday, including those who are not staying on campus during camp. For those staying on campus, check out is Friday June 16th, before the final concert. Students' belongings will be stored on campus and can be picked up after the final concert.

    • Optional Dorm Meals - $28/day - Includes 3 meals per day for those staying on campus. Lunch and dinner for those commuting from home.
